He has worked on projects for the U.S. Coast Guard, the United States Congress, the Federal Trade Commission, Ferrari North America, Procter & Gamble, the Consumer Federation of America, Rocky Shoes & Boots, the Center for International Business Education and Development, public radio, public television, the City of Athens Ohio, the State of Alaska, and the Government of Nigeria.
James Murray has written 3 books, articles for TV Guide, New Age, Living Alternatives, The Progressive, and trade and film magazines; was commissioned by director Brian DePalma to write a feature-length filmscript; has taught media classes to children, teenagers, university students, non-traditional adult students, and inmates in 5 Ohio prisons.
As a video producer, he produced, directed, and edited the 15-part soap opera, 45701, a short music video on the Vietnam Memorial entitled 58214, a two-hour documentary on multiple-personality Billy Milligan, the subject of Daniel Keyes’ bestseller, The Minds of Billy Milligan, and produced more than 20 recruitment and promotional videotapes for Ohio University.
For 7 years he served on the national board of directors for Friends of the Earth, a non-profit organization founded by David Brower and formerly based in San Francisco with affiliated offices in 28 countries.
He is the composer and lyricist for “The New Birthday Song” and a member of ASCAP.
For 12 years he published The Athens Morning Fax and The Athens Restaurant and Community Guide; and for eight years was a regular guest on a public radio show dealing with American culture, computers, the Internet, new technologies, e-commerce, and the World Wide Web.
Dr. Murray holds three graduate degrees (MA, PhD, MS) and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Phi Eta Sigma Honor Societies.
